No need for travel authorisation if you travel before the expiry date.

If the renewal progress status indicates that emgs has issued the supporting letter and that it or the university is waiting for you to submit your passport, you can travel to Malaysia
Of course, you can travel to Malaysia before that since you have a valid pass but we usually prefer to travel after the stage I mentioned to reduce the waiting time in Malaysia.

Please be informed existing International Students with a valid student pass are exempted from applying for a Travel Authorization via EMGS to enter Malaysia. However, the students must ensure that their student pass is valid at the point of entry into Malaysia
