Hi Jawad,
Student Pass holders can convert to Dependent Pass. However, they are required to refer to the Immigration Department to check if they are required to exit Malaysia during the processing of the application.

Dear EMGS Officer.
I am an international Ph.D student on a valid student pass but outside of Malaysia. I want to bring along with my spouse in next month together with me on a social visit pass? Is it possible now that my spouse will enter through social visit pass and later will convert into a dependable pass through the institute.

Hi Jawad,
If the Student Pass expires whilst you are outside of Malaysia, you are required to apply for the SEV at the Malaysia Mission in your home country upon receiving the travel authorization and the Letter of Approval (Entry Permit). The requirement for SEV is applicable to students from visa required countries.
