Medical process should not be affected that much. Whereas other factor might be affected depending on when your school start their classes. (You missed orientation as well)

Registration for only PhD never gets affected throughout the year. Disadvantage may be only missing of some initial advice from thesis supervisor. Nothing else but documents required should be complete.
