Urgent Clarification Regarding Additional Payment for Student Pass Renewal – Kezia Kristianti
Dear Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) Support Team, My application number is #########. I am writing to seek urgent clarification regarding an additional payment request I have received in relation to my student pass renewal. My application for a 12-month renewal was approved for a 9-month duration.
I have been in communication with my university’s Visa Processing Unit (VPU) to understand the nature of this additional charge. The payment breakdown I received (screenshot attached) indicates a “Top Up Payment” of MYR373.50, specifically detailed as “Insurance – EFTB Plan2-2025 RM30K 9-Month Age 16 to 70.”
My VPU initially stated this payment was due to the change in duration and an “amendment of the insurance coverage” (screenshot attached). However, upon further inquiry, including a direct visit to the VPU office, I was explicitly informed that insurance is an optional component for third-year students like myself. This directly contradicts the mandatory nature implied by the payment request.
I have outlined my concerns in detail in my subsequent email to the VPU (screenshots attached). These concerns include: 1. Contradictory Information on Insurance: The direct confirmation from VPU staff that insurance is optional for third-year students, yet this payment is presented as an insurance amendment. 2. Lack of Transparency in Billing: The payment is categorized as “Insurance” despite the VPU’s explanation that it relates to the change in study duration. My parents and I require a clear and accurate description of what this payment represents if it is not purely an insurance premium. 3. Inconsistency with Peers: Other students in my batch who have also had their study durations extended have not been subjected to any “insurance coverage top-up.”
I wish to state unequivocally that I do not want and do not require insurance service coverage from EMGS. My primary objective is to understand and pay only for legitimate and clearly defined fees. If this payment is indeed a fee associated with the shorter visa approval, then it should be clearly labeled as such, not as an insurance charge for a service I do not wish to procure.
I kindly request EMGS to review my case, taking into account the attached email correspondence with my university’s VPU, and provide a definitive and transparent explanation for this charge. Please clarify: (a) Is this MYR373.50 payment a mandatory fee related to the change in my visa duration, and if so, what is its exact nature (e.g., administrative fee, etc.)? (b) If it is related to insurance, please explain why it is mandatory when my university’s VPU has confirmed insurance is optional for third-year students.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this pressing matter. I look forward to your comprehensive clarification.
Sincerely, Kezia Kristianti
