**Incident at Mentari Court – Student Rights and Immigration Conduct**
Today, an immigration check was conducted at Mentari Court where several Bangladeshi students were detained. Although they possess valid student visas, student cards, and i-Cards, their passports were temporarily submitted to their respective universities as part of administrative procedures.
Despite their legal status, they were treated like criminals—handcuffed and publicly humiliated. This raises serious concerns: does an immigration officer not have the means or authority to verify a student’s visa status before making such arrests? Is there no basic security or dignity for an international student in this country?
These students are not illegal migrants. We are not defending those who overstay or break the law, but we urge authorities to treat genuine, legal students with the respect they deserve. Being detained overnight will certainly cause emotional and mental distress to them and their families.
We sincerely hope the immigration department takes this issue seriously and ensures that such unjust treatment does not happen again.
