Hi EMGS,

I am Abeera, (Passport number: JA4156221), studying at SEGi University Malaysia. I arrived in May 2023, but due to some financial issues, I couldn’t clear my dues. Consequently, the university withheld my passport, preventing me from returning home. My visa expired a month ago, and only recently has the university permitted me to leave on an understanding basis.

Had they allowed me to leave earlier, I would have already returned home. Now, they are still holding my passport and are demanding RM 1000 for overstaying and RM 145 for a special pass. They claim the process will take 3-4 months, because EMGS takes a considerable amount of time. I am currently unwell and deeply depressed, living in a hostel without the ability to move because I don’t have my passport.

Additionally, I was unable to attend the program I came for because shortly after my arrival, my father faced significant business losses, which prevented me from paying the fees. I was willing to go back but couldn’t do so without my passport.

Please advise me on what to do.
