Hello, I currently have a visa but I want to change my course. I was told that I have to cancel my student visa and leave the country immediately after cancellation and apply for a new student visa. Is it necessary to leave the country or can I just apply for a new one here in Malaysia?

  Please be informed that the student can proceed with a variation application (change course or change Institution) within the first year of study and remains in Malaysia. However, the approval is solely depends on the Immigration Department. Therefore, kindly liaise with your institution for further assistance on your application process.
  
  In addition, the requirement to leave the country depends on the type of the pass you are holding at the time of application, as well as the type of application you are applying for.
