If it expires , you might be able to collect another one if your VAL is still valid but it will be advisable to travel before it expires because it might be difficult to obtain another visa.

In my past experience it took me a month from when EMGS submitted my applications to immigration approved my VAL but this happened in 2016 im not sure about now. I heard they speed up the process to be 14 working days now. So we shall see.
