My suggestion is not to wait for expiry and then renewal of eval.. it’s better you come with a valid val and SEV. Apply for student pass and then you are free with a multi entry option.
Renewing val is a big story, first you will have to cancel the current expired val, then apply for a new, then another SEV… choice is yours-

Theoretically, but would be better if both the papers are intact. You can renew eval via UM(AASC) THRU immigration.

By theory yes but most often once your documents are intact immigration will clear you and you are good to go
