So far I know you can, brother. Coz, I also did face the almost same problem as you do now. I was given the offer letter on my previous passport, then I renewed my passport, and I applied for VAL using my new passport. I talked to emgs department about this, they replied me affirmatively as my previous passport number is mentioned in the new one. So, I think it might not create any problem. But you better take a GD copy about the lost of your passport with you while you are entering into Malaysia. Have a great time.
