My name is James Watson, passport number #########. I have been dealing with issues with your department for three months now, forcing me to spend thousands of USD housing myself without a lease while waiting outside the country that I could be spending in Malaysia. This post is meant for any other US students trying to get into the country. The process of immigration here is not meant for westerners- don’t trust EMGS’s time estimates. Expect to spend upwards of $700usd getting your passport and diploma notarized (EVERY PAGE), upwards of $1,000 on the ridiculously exhaustive medical check (including vaccines not typically available in the US, which are not effective for adults but required for some reason anyway. They also leave a scar on adults by the way). Expect to be met with resistance and delays at every turn and contradictory instructions. Most frustratingly, they won’t even allow you to enter as a tourist to familiarize yourself with the country while waiting for your studies to begin. If my subject of study and the best experts on it were not at UNIMAS, I would have given up months ago.
