    • Hello Kayode. I am a student like you and had my visa expired a year ago. This being said, the procedure for me was:

Apply for renewal and pay the fees two months before my planned travel
Apply simultaneously for the travel authorisation
Got the travel authorisation in 14 working days
Got the renewal percentage up to 90 (this is optional. You can choose to come to Malaysia before this percentage as long as you have the ta)
Applied and paid the fees for hotel quarantine
Got the single entry visa from the embassy
      Traveled to Malaysia

If your visa has not expired, you can travel without the need for ta. Just you need to get your quarantine arrangements.

      • dear bro
For the existing student who applied renewal visa, its not 90% at all,to compeletion it will be reach to 50% (Emgs awaiting student passport) and in this percentage student can apply TA and et all.
i think bro you are a little forget the percentages.
        thanks muhammad risha

        • I don’t think renewal application is mandatory for travel; the travel authorisation is. The only difference is that if a student opts to apply for renewal in Malaysia, then this means two things: 1. They have to wait for 1 to 2 months for the sticker 2. They run the risk of expiry of the single entry visa and will have to apply for special passes, or else they become overstayed and subject to serious liability and fines. This is why we need to ensure the highest possible progress percentage to be attained before coming in.

          • Aha! I never noticed it is 50. In my case it was 90 and even when arriving to the University, the first question the visa department asked me was “Is your progress percentage 90%?”

You also said that the notification reads that emgs is waiting for your passport. This means your university prefers to have your sticker through emgs, which takes time and might as such explain why it is only 50%. In my case, however, my university does not send the passport to emgs. It submits it directly to the local immigration department in Penang. So, this shortcut, I believe, is behind my 90% vs your 50%.

            • @usmangillani See the discussion above explaining the difference between 50 and 90 percent. Good luck.

            • Dear muhammad
              really, why its different??
              should be same process.
and how yr institue process without yr visa from 50% to 90%??😳

              • Not exactly. If your university takes the passport, sends it to emgs then emgs sends it to the immigration department then receives it with the sticker then sends it back to the university, it takes more time.
If the university takes your passport to the state immigration department directly, then the percentage from emgs supporting letter to sticker is way shorter than the other route.
