Please communicate to immigration – or whoever it is that you have contact with – that the UK travel ban needs to be lifted. I know, I know, it’s up to the authorities – but I don’t have any means of communicating with them, and *you* do.

The B117 variant is present in dozens of countries now, including Malaysia. Case numbers in the UK have plummeted since the UK specific ban was introduced. And I know I keep repeating myself, but I think I need to continue to do so, in order to highlight the absurdity of this situation: I haven’t been to the UK since January 2020. To uphold the current ban based on travel history is already unscientific; to explicitly enforce it on the basis of citizenship is straight up offensive. Whoever came up with that one should be ashamed of themselves.

I’ve been living out of a suitcase in a hotel room for the past year, deliberately avoiding returning to the UK in the vain hope that it might strengthen my chances of being allowed to come home. For over a year now I’ve been separated from my apartment, my cats, my friends, my fiancé, my entire life. Malaysia is where I live. I have built a life there. I have nothing anywhere else. Please let me come home. This is killing me.
