A ‘variation’ application is any application where a student wants to change a course or institution while at the same level of study. A variation is different from a progression application because it happens before the student completes their current programme of study.
Applications to progress to a higher level of study upon completion of the current studies are known as ‘progression’ applications (E.g. Diploma to Degree)
In both cases (variation and progression), the student will be required to apply for a new VAL.
You are not required to apply for a new VAL if you have not completed the entire course duration and want to renew your Student Pass. In this case, your institution will submit a renewal application to us on your behalf
