Night Time Popiah!!

Restoran Mei Keng

Be sure to visit this place at night! This restaurant is actually a food court. You will find the wrong stalls if you go during the day as there are two batches that operate here. One batch does breakfast and lunch and the second operates for dinner.

First things first: What is popiah? It’s not that complicated! Think SPRINGROLLS! You can order vegetarian or meat. Usually the outer layer of popiah is coated with peanuts and they add both chilli sauce and sweet sauce. You have to try it! Make sure you tell them not to add the chilli if you aren’t a chilli lover!

You can try the signature hoagie that goes for RM12.50. If you and your friends are really craving some meat, you can order the Mushroom Chicken Chop for RM 17.80. Do note that they have set meals as well. Bargain!!! You also have to pay first before sinking your teeth into the awesome food!

Malaysian Ice Cream!

Sulaiman’s Cendol and Rojak

Let’s talk about cendol. No, let’s talk about Sulaiman’s cendol. You will probably need a local friend to navigate the hidden streets of Pudu to find this stall. For those of you who are wondering what cendol is: think ice…..lots of ice. Add worm shaped noodles and toppings such as kidney beans, pulut, durian and condensed milk. I could go on but this is a desert that you would have to just see and decide for yourself. It goes for just RM1.40 and above (depends on the toppings you want).

But wait, there’s more! Air Batu Campur (mixed ice)….more commonly known as ABC. More ice but this time you add peanust, corn, red beans, grass jelly cubes and all sorts of multi-colored pearls. This goes for about RM2.20 so bring all your friends!

Price Range: RM1.20 – RM4.50

Address: Jalan Pasar (Pudu Market Alleyway, Next to Restoran M.S.S Maju)

56100 55200 Pudu.

Opening Hours: 8300 – 1700 Daily

Banging Bak Kut Teh!

Restoran Mungo Jerry

This one is my personal favourite! I have lost count how many times I have been here.  Sumptuous Chinese cuisine: pork ribs cooked in broth in a broth of pepper and garlic for many hours. Bak Kut Teh can be directly translated as ‘meat bone tea’ You can eat a fine meal with about 4 people here for under RM50.

As soon as you arrive, you are served with Herbal tea! You can have it with sugar if you like as well. I’m just going to have to tell you what you NEED to order.  First you ask for Yau Char Kuey (think of fried doughnuts) which is RM 4.00. They will serve it with herbal soup, a sticky soup that is cooked with broth.  Dip your Yau Char Kuey in the soup and thank me later. After that, go for the Fried Roasted Pork (RM 12.00) and eat it with onion rice (RM1.50 a plate). It might sound like a lot but there is more! Try the Pokkari (pork curry!) for RM12.00 and Kailan (vegetable: eat your greens!) in Oyster Sauce for RM 8.00. You will absolutely love it!

Price Range: RM4.00 – RM12.00

Address: No. 292, Jalan Raja Laut, Chow Kit, 50350 Kuala Lumpur.
